Order in the Court (and Maybe Some Cupcakes): A LAMN Scholar’s Final Year at Yale

I’m back for my third (and final) year at Yale Law following a wonderful summer in Boston working at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, where I met amazing people and was able to experience exciting health law work. I’ve got a lot of writing to finish this year and am focusing on one piece that’s especially near and dear to me: an examination of ways in which the American healthcare system perpetuates the disability poverty trap. I’m also wrapping up my editorial duties with the Yale Law Journal, doing clinical work with the Medical Legal Partnership and Disability Rights Connecticut, and handing off leadership of the Disabled Law Students Association to the next generation. And of course slipping in some baking when I’m able, though it’s sadly been a while since I had the time to do a wedding cake...
It’s a deep relief to be able to focus on my research and studies without having to worry about school costs on top of the not-insignificant medical expenses that I face alongside so many others; I’m infinitely grateful to Laughing at My Nightmare for providing me with such a generous scholarship and hope to be able to give back to the community over the course of my legal career!

As someone with very complex history of physical comorbidities and disabilities, this makes me so happy to see. Your story drew me more into LAMN. For a long time, I have admired Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Seeing you, I automatically compared you to her. I want to thank you for persevering when I know that at times your challenge was almost guaranteed more difficult than others going to college. But more than that, I want to say thank you for choosing a topic that not many care to press upon simply because it does not effect them, and here you are, making effort for those of us who aren’t able to for ourselves.
